Backstop — An app built for archery
As a passionate archer, I spent a long time looking for an app that could keep up with how seriously I take the sport. Nothing quite fit — so I built Backstop. A native iOS training companion designed to feel as precise as archery itself.
AI coaching, when you want it After each training block, an AI coaching engine analyzes your recent sessions — ends, placement patterns, equipment context — and returns a structured report with a performance assessment, trend analysis, and specific drills to work on.
A separate feature lets you photograph a physical scorecard and transfer the results into the app.
Built on solid ground Training data lives in a native SwiftData stack with iCloud sync, so sessions are always available across devices. Every arrow is stored as a coordinate on the target face, scored against World Archery face geometry — the same specs used in competition.
Everything you need on the range Log sessions with a tap-to-score target canvas, track your bow setup and sight settings, and let GPS figure out where you're training. The statistics dashboard gives you a clear picture of your progress: score distribution, group consistency, personal records, and a timeline that scales with your history.
A built-in Archer Rating distills your performance across distances and target sizes into a single number — so you always know where you stand.
For field archers, a dedicated Parcours mode handles 3D courses with station-by-station scoring.
